Attention Faculty: Fall Semester Writing Groups

Attention Faculty: Fall Semester Writing Groups

This semester there will be two options for faculty members to participate in Writing Groups to support the development of scholarly manuscripts. The faculty members who have participated in previous semesters have found the groups helpful to them and have produced scholarly manuscripts supported by participation in the group. Details on each of the groups and instructions for signing up for a group follow:

1. One group will be coordinated by Dr. Diane Holditch-Davis. The group will provide critique and support for writing papers and other writing. Faculty can discuss writing projects at any point in the process from conceptualization through revisions based on reviewer comments. It is not expected that group members will complete projects in one semester but last year many group members did and all who attended for at least two semesters had publications. The group will meet twice a month. The first meeting is tentatively on Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. However, let Dr. Holditch-Davis know if this time won't work for you. The group may be able to meet at a different day of the week or time. The first meeting will be on October 5 at 12 p.m. Contact Dr. Holditch-Davis at diane.hd@duke.edu to sign-up.

 2. The other group will be coordinated by Dr. Marilyn Oermann and Jane Shealy, DUSON editor, with the first group meeting on Wednesday, October 19, from 12-1 p.m. Oermann and Shealy will guide faculty through completion of a new manuscript or revision of a paper based on the tasks and timeline in the attachment. Manuscripts will be submitted by February 15, 2017. The writing group will meet every two weeks for faculty to share their progress and drafts with the group. Contact Dr. Oermann at marilyn.oermann@duke.edu to sign up.
