Cheifetz Named Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer, Duke Children’s

Ira M. Cheifetz was recently appointed Executive Director for Duke Children’s. Creation of this new role provides an enhanced structure for strategic leadership from a global perspective, with Dr. Cheifetz positioned to provide oversight for the care of pediatric patients across the health system. Dr. Cheifetz will collaborate closely with DUH/DUHS senior leadership, Dr. Ann Reed as Chair of Pediatrics, and other clinical chairs to advance the key missions of Duke Children’s. 

Cheifetz has served as Chief Medical Officer for Duke Children’s and as an Associate Chief Medical Officer for Duke Hospital since 2013 and he will continue in these roles. In his new position, Cheifetz’s expanded scope will include focusing on strategic planning, building partnerships and affiliations and assessing facility needs. He will also work on initiatives related to quality improvement, patient safety and effective patient flow for children throughout the health system.
