Duke University School of Nursing has been ranked the No.1 Doctor of Nursing Practice program by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) in its 2019 Best Graduate Nursing Schools rankings. We were also named the number two Best Graduate Nursing Program and our Family Nurse Practitioner specialty was ranked number one!

“The outstanding work being done today, coupled with our legacy of excellence is what allows us to be counted among the elite nursing schools in the nation,” said Marion E. Brome, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean and Ruby Wilson Professor of Nursing, Duke University School of Nursing; vice chancellor for Nursing Affairs, Duke University; associate vice president for Academic Affairs for Nursing, Duke University Health System. “We aren’t one of the best nursing schools because of our rankings, we are one of the best nursing schools because of what we do.”

We are honored to be ranked among the top best nursing schools in the nation for 2019 and we will continue to challenge ourselves to shape the future of nursing education and the nursing profession.

School of Nursing programs recognized as being the best in the nation are:

“As a global leader in nursing education, research and clinical practice, we have created the expectation of excellence in ourselves and in those with whom we work that continues to define our future as we help reshape nursing and health care delivery,” Broome said. “We will continue to expand our reputation for innovation that is a result of our engaged alumni, world-class faculty, the brightest nursing students and extremely talented staff.”

The DNP Program

Graduates of Duke’s DNP program are nurse leaders in interdisciplinary health care teams that work to improve systems of care, patient outcomes, quality and safety. Our program recently launched an Executive Leadership Specialty, equipping accomplished nurse leaders with the needed knowledge and skills to lead complex and ever-changing organizations and health care systems.

The Family NP Program

Our Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver nursing care to persons of all ages across primary care settings, including those in rural and underserved areas. Our clinical and state of the art simulation techniques prepare students for clinical practice in a variety of primary care settings.

The Duke University School of Nursing community salutes and congratulates the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty and staff who have earned these distinctions of excellence. We also thank our dedicated alumni for their support.
