DUSON Faculty, Staff & Students Participate in Durham Homeless Count and Connect Events

Donna Biederman, Irene Felsman and 11 ABSN students participated in the Durham Point-in-Time Count. The annual event is mandated for municipalities that receive Department of Housing and Urban Development funding for homeless services and occurs during one night the last week of January. During the count, homeless persons were surveyed and given a bus pass and VIP pass to the Fresh Start Connect.

In addition, Michelle Hartman and a team of six ABSN students were at the Durham Bulls stadium to greet the VIP guests and accompany them to the various service providers on hand.

As a result, 60 unsheltered homeless people were counted, 35 individuals attended Fresh Start Connect, and four receive housing after attending the Fresh Start Connect event.
