DUSON Welcomes Nearly 300 New Students for Fall 2016

Duke University School of Nursing welcomed nearly 300 new students admitted to the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Nurse Anesthesia, and PhD programs this week for New Student Orientation.

The Fall 2016 admits represent the United States including close to home in Durham and as far as Oregon, California, Hawaii, Alaska, and more. Students also represent the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Pakistan.

DUSON's new students also represent diverse backgrounds - former tour manager for a rock band; an extra in a Jason Stratham movie; a classically-trained pianist; world champion jump roper; a papaya farm worker in Fiji; an adventurous student who propelled down a castle in Belgium, a student featured on the Weather Channel, several students who enjoy ballroom dancing, one student who makes furniture and another student who makes leather bond journals.

Not only are DUSON's new students diverse, adventurous and crafty, but they also care about the health outcomes of our communities. Several students chose nursing because of their own personal experiences with type 1 diabetes or caring for an ill family member. Others will devote their research to development disabilities, oncology, health disparities and so much more.

As you can see, DUSON is the destination for outstanding talent.

Much success for this academic school year!
