"It is with a great deal of pleasure that I nominate Debra Mattice for a 2016-17 Commitment to Excellence Award. While Debra’s work performance exceeds the criteria listed for this honor, I believe that her steadfast and unwavering commitment to better the DUSON community is worthy of special recognition. I do not work for DUSON but have had the privilege of collaborating with Debra on a series of high-impact compliance initiatives designed to ensure that Duke’s nursing students can receive a world-class educational experience across the country. Debra has spearheaded this compliance effort on behalf of DUSON, and her willingness to take on and complete additional tasks under difficult circumstances has been an essential component to the project’s success. Debra has also gone out of her way to find innovative solutions to meet the challenges of an evolving compliance initiative.  In doing so, her competence, diligence, and always pleasant demeanor has served to place the regulators that we consistently deal with at ease to the benefit of the DUSON students that she dutifully serves.  I believe that Debra represents the best of both our DUSON and Duke communities, and I strongly encourage you to acknowledge her outstanding service through the 2016-17 Commitment to Excellence Award." ~ Hunter Stokes

"It is with great pleasure we nominate Wendy Conklin for a Commitment to Excellence award. Wendy is a tremendous asset to our grant-writing team with her expertise and financial knowledge to support the preparation with her articulate questions and careful planning. Meticulous to detail and exemplary in her communication, she provided the “backbone” for our work effort to successfully complete a HRSA grant. Going above and beyond her call of duty, she also provided me with guidance in the specific rules and documentation of the grant submission which, for a first time grant writer, were foreign language to me. She became a wonderful mentor through this process which tremendously impacted the success of the project. We are truly fortunate to have this outstanding service leader among us at DUSON to enhance or mission and goals for the future.  I’m grateful for her exemplary effort which was offered with a smile.  It’s an honor to nominate her for this recognition.  Thank you, Wendy!" ~ Anne Derouin and Barbara Turner
