Prevention magazine is joining forces with the Emmy® Award–winning, syndicated daytime show The Doctors in a nationwide search to find America’s Most Amazing Nurse.

“Today’s nurses are caregivers, innovators, and leaders,” says Barbara O’Dair, Editor-in-Chief of Prevention. “They’re often full partners on their medical and research teams, in jobs that are demanding and complex, and yet are rarely celebrated for their unique contributions. We’re excited to be partnering with The Doctors to launch our ‘America’s Most Amazing Nurse’ contest – we want to honor these devoted professionals and acknowledge their outstanding work.”

“Nurses are the glue that holds health care together,” says Dr. Travis Stork, an emergency physician and host of The Doctors. “This contest will give us the opportunity to showcase the incredible work nurses do every day and give some additional recognition to the profession.” 

Colleagues, friends, and family are encouraged to nominate their “Most Amazing Nurse”; each entrant or nominee must have an active RN license or advanced nursing credential and must currently be working in the nursing field. Examples of qualifications include:

• Exceeds the standards for excellence in nursing care, education, or research 
• Is viewed as a role model and/or mentor in their workplace or community
• Consistently goes above and beyond the day-to-day responsibilities of their position
• Has used their nursing skills to serve their country, volunteer for a non-profit organization, or otherwise provide care to those in need
• Has done something remarkable to improve the health of patients, their community, or the world
• Has implemented innovative ideas for improving their profession or health care in general 

Entries will be accepted at thedoctorstv.com through December 31, 2016. Five finalists will appear in the May 2017 issue of Prevention magazine and on The Doctors television show. Each of the five finalists will also have a $1,000 donation made in their name to the charity of their choice. America’s Most Amazing Nurse will be announced in the June 2017 issue of Prevention magazine and on The Doctors television show airing during the week of May 6, 2017, in conjunction with National Nurses Week. In addition, the winner will receive a grand prize trip to Iceland, including two round-trip tickets on WOW Air from the US to Reykjavik, Iceland, where they’ll stay for five nights at Blue Lagoon’s Hotel Silica and experience the world-renowned geothermal waters with a VIP spa experience.
