OGACHI Welcomes International Visiting Scholar Yanhong Gu, PhD

International visiting research scholar Yanhong Gu, PhD, arrived at DUSON on June 28, 2016, for a six-month visit. Dr. Gu is Deputy Dean and Vice Professor at the College of Nursing, Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Shanghai, China and will have a mentored and professional development experience working under the guidance of Dr. Bei Wu.

During her time at DUSON, Dr. Gu will:

  1. Become familiarized with geriatric nursing in programs in the US and to know its curriculum setting, professional training and evaluation system.
  2. Participate in Dr. Wu’s research group and conduct a systematic review on long-term care workforce training.
  3. Investigate long-term care model in the US in terms of policymaking, workforce, and services available.
  4. Review of the curriculum of the undergraduate and post graduate programs at DUSON.
  5. Examine the healthcare system in the US and compare with the Chinese system, in order to generate publications for international referee journals.
  6. Seek opportunities for research collaboration and program corporations between DUSON and Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
  7. If available and approved, audit the following courses:
  • 474: Nursing Management of the Adult Patient with Health Problems
  • 475: Gerontological Nursing: Caring for Older Adults and their Families

In addition she will present a one hour colloquium on global health while at DUSON. An announcement will be forthcoming in the near future.

Update

Dr. Gu has already hit the ground running with a meet and greet scheduled with Dean Broome, a conversation to be scheduled with Dr. Queen-Utley Smith, and after meeting with Dr. Sharron Docherty, she has been approved to audit Course #N901-Philophy of Science & Theory of Development. The course is taught by Dr. Docherty and Dean Marion Broome.

Dr. Gu will be an active participant in the N901 class.  She will submit a concept analysis paper and a research proposal paper focused on isolating her theoretical framework and then receive feedback from her professors here. She will also contribute to the class discussion and bring perspectives on Eastern philosophy of science.
