PhD candidate Ryan Shaw, MS, RN, has been awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Duke University Medical Center Department of Medicine. The fellowship will be funded through the VA Office of Academic Affairs.
Shaw will complete his fellowship under the guidance of Hayden B. Bosworth, PhD, associate director of the Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care at the Durham VA and research professor at the Duke University School of Medicine and the Duke University School of Nursing. Dr. Bosworth is an expert on developing behavioral interventions to improve treatment adherence and self-management related to chronic disease.
Shaw’s research focuses on a critical issue in health care: how to successfully maintain healthy behaviors. Shaw’s study will concentrate on self-management and maintenance of weight loss through mHealth, the use of mobile technology as a healthcare delivery method. Shaw will conduct a multi-phase study developing and testing an innovative mobile health intervention.
