Student Spotlight: Brandon Brock Helping Veterans After War

DUSON Student Spotlight highlights the diverse background of our nursing students and their personal stories of dedication, leadership, perseverance and academic or community achievements.

DUSON shines a spotlight on DNP student Dr. Brandon Brock from Amarillo, Texas. Brock will graduate in 2017.

Q: What would people be surprised to know about you?

A: I just received the Living Legacy Award from Samford University where I did my MSN.  A week later I got the Humanitarian Award from the International Association of Functional Neurology and Rehabilitation for my work with Veterans and patients with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Q: What is a cause you're passionate about?

A: Helping veterans with mental illness and PTSD after war.

Q: Tell us about a project, service group or organization that you are involved with at DUSON, Duke University or in the community.

A: I am a clinical leader at Cerebrum Health Centers, as well as a clinical lecturer at an osteopathic school, the University of Miami iCAMP. In addition, I have a Neurology post graduate program and Integrative Medicine Program.

Q: What have you learned (or are learning) that's made a difference for you?

A: That people matter and our veterans deserve high quality health care.

Q: How does your nursing degree fit into your life's plans?

A:  I am researching the best way to help our veterans with the most cost efficient plan for long term solutions.
