Non-degree Enrollment Option
For individuals wishing to take classes for personal or professional enrichment, the non-degree enrollment option provides an opportunity to enroll in courses without being formally admitted to the Duke University School of Nursing. The non-degree enrollment option is available for students already holding a bachelor’s degree who are interested in taking graduate courses.
Non-degree enrollment option students can earn up to seven graduate credits. Duke University School of Nursing maintains official transcripts for all students using the non-degree enrollment option, documenting attendance and earned grade(s) in the course(s). Financial aid is not available to students using the non-degree enrollment option.
Applications may be submitted for the non-degree enrollment option until two weeks prior to the start of each semester. Enrollment decisions are made by course instructors on a space-available basis.
- Earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
How to Apply
- Complete the online non-degree enrollment option application and upload all required documentation.
- Pay the $50 application fee. The fee can be paid by check or money order and should be mailed to the Office of Admissions and Student Services.
- Submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended. Transcripts must be received in a sealed envelope from the issuing institution. Transcripts can be sent via a School’s electronic transcript delivery system to SONAdmissions@dm.duke.edu.
The Office of Admissions and Student Services will send you an email confirming approval to enroll. Notifications are typically sent 2-4 weeks prior to the start of the semester. To finalize your enrollment you must submit a $150 tuition deposit to the Office of Admissions and Student Services.
Once your tuition deposit has been received, the Office of Admissions and Student Services will request that your Net ID and password be created. You will need your Net ID and password to log in to your Duke email account and to register for classes.
Non-degree students may need to meet certain compliance requirements before enrolling. These requirements may include the following:
- Background check
- Drug screen
Duke’s online registration system is called ACES. Your Net ID and password are required to access this system. Before logging in to ACES, please read and review the Help Document for ACES, which provides the basic registration/enrollment instructions.

- View your academic history
- Monitor bursar account activity
- Request a transcript
- Update your address
Payments for tuition and fees are due prior to the start of the semester. Duke University accepts e-check or mailed checks; credit/debit card tuition payments are not accepted. Financial aid is not available for non-degree students.
Your Duke Email Account
The University and the School of Nursing uses only your Duke email account for official University communication. You are solely responsible for assuring and maintaining email access at all times. Help is available if you are having difficulty setting up or logging in to your Duke email account.
