DUSON Merit Scholarship

Students must apply for the Merit scholarship through the Admissions application prior to the priority admissions deadlines:

  • Fall 2020 - December 1

Late applications will not be considered. Essays must be submitted by the deadline and prior to being admitted to the program.

Prospective students applying to enter the Duke University School of Nursing for the first time in a Post-Master’s DNP degree program who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply. The School will award one scholarship to a new Post-Master's DNP student beginning the program in fall 2020. The scholarship will cover $29,000 of required tuition ($5,800/semester for five semesters). Students must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States to be eligible for consideration.

The purpose of this scholarship program is to provide tuition assistance to outstanding individuals who demonstrate academic achievement, creativity and innovation, exceptional communication skills, and the potential for significant leadership in their professional endeavors. In a narrative (500 words or less, 12 point font, double-spaced), please describe how you meet these criteria and have had a significant and beneficial effect on others. Upload your essay in pdf  format as part of your admissions application.

The merit scholarship recipient is expected to remain in good academic standing throughout the program of study and, in collaboration with the Program Director, to contribute to the School in substantive ways.

Embracing Diversity For An Engaged Community

Embracing diversity is a crucial component for engaging with students, faculty, and the world. We think of it as diversity with a global perspective. Creating a learning climate where creativity, robust yet respectful debate, and a genuine respect for others can flourish. Fostering international research collaborations, developing global health initiatives, and coordinating access to health care for under-served populations. Educating next-generation nurses for leadership and service in the global community.

Diversity with a global perspective assures a warm welcome—not mere tolerance—for differences in national origin, race, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or veteran status.

We provide a safe haven where diversity can spawn intellectual engagement and collaborative partnerships.
