Nurse Anesthesia Financial Aid & Scholarship

Thank you for your interest in our Nurse Anesthesia Doctor of Nursing Practice program! We understand financing an education can be daunting. We offer scholarships based on financial need and merit. Visit each section below for more information regarding funding options and how to apply:

Financial Aid

Fall 2020 Applicants:

Nurse Anesthesia Fall 2020 Merit Scholarship

Prospective students applying to enter the Nurse Anesthesia program at Duke University School of Nursing for the first time in the fall 2020 semester who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. The School will award one scholarship to a new fall 2020 Nurse Anesthesia DNP student. The merit scholarship will cover approximately $68,000 of required tuition for the Nurse Anesthesia program. Students must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States to be eligible for consideration.

The purpose of this scholarship program is to provide tuition assistance to outstanding individuals who demonstrate academic achievement, creativity and innovation, exceptional communication skills, and the potential for significant leadership in their professional endeavors. In a narrative (500 words or less, 12 point font, double-spaced), please describe how you meet these criteria and have had a significant and beneficial effect on others. Submit essays as part of your admissions application by October 1, 2019.

Students who receive a Duke University School of Nursing Merit Scholarship must remain in good academic standing throughout their program of study and, in collaboration with their Program Director, to contribute to the School in substantive ways. 

Deadline: October 1, 2019 

Late essays will not be considered for the merit scholarship.

Federal Loans and Need-based Scholarship

Once admitted, Nurse Anesthesia students beginning the program in fall 2020 should complete the documents below for need-based scholarship and federal loan eligibility:

  • 2020-21 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (available after October 1, 2019)
    • School code: 002920
    • Use IRS data retrieval to complete 2018 income information
    • Allow 5-7 business days for this application survey to be reflected in our system
    • This only needs to be completed once, prior to beginning the program

Admitted students receive a Financing DUSON communication at the time of acceptance to the program. Students are emailed financial aid notifications in April 2020, after the announcement of 2020-21 tuition and fees.

Currently enrolled students:

  • Complete the 2020-21 FAFSA by April 1, 2020
    • School code: 002920
    • Use IRS data retrieval to complete 2018 income information
  • Review the Financial Aid Notification and Financial Aid Next Steps guide, emailed by the end of June and available in the Financial Aid Tab of the DukeHub
    • Change the academic year to 2020-21 at the top of the page to view 2020-21 information
    • Email us if you will be deviating from the standard Nurse Anesthesia matriculation plan for fall 2020, spring 2021, or summer 2021
  • Accept federal loans in the DukeHub by June 15th for loans to show up as a credit on the fall bill
  • Accept federal loans no later than July 31 to avoid late fees
  • Students who have not accepted enough loans to cover tuition or have not paid their balance for the semester by August 1 will be charged a late fee. For more information regarding billing, contact the Bursar’s office.
