Overview


Tracey L Yap, PhD, RN, WCC, CNE, FGSA, FAAN is a professor in the Duke University School of Nursing, and a Senior Fellow in the Duke University Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development. The overarching goal of her research is to improve the quality of care delivered by nursing staff, regardless of setting, and she aims to advance nursing’s ability to improve health care outcomes by increasing the mobility/movement of individuals through nursing’s use of cueing approaches, such as reminder messages and behavioral alerts. More specifically, she aims to understand and improve the processes that facilitate nursing staff implementation of evidence-based mobility/movement best practices that target common, yet seemingly intractable geriatric conditions, such as facility-acquired pressure injuries/ulcers. She has had research grant funding by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, National Institute of Nursing Research, National Institute of Safety and Health, and The John A. Hartford Foundation. Dr. Yap teaches in the Doctorate of Nursing Practice programl. In recognition of her accomplishments, she was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing as a Fellow in 2015, and into the Gerontological Society of America as a Fellow in 2018. In 2019 she was the recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).The PECASE is the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government to outstanding scientists and engineers who are beginning their independent research careers and who show exceptional promise for leadership in science and technology.
