For many, conceiving a child is a special joy of life. For those who want to conceive but are unable, however, life can sometimes feel meaningless. Despite the emotional investment involved in reproduction and the millions who can't get pregnant or carry a baby to term, fertility is still a fairly untapped area of health care.
Faculty members Melissa Batchelor-Murphy, Rosa Gonzalez-Guarda, Devon Noonan, Schenita Randolph, Karin Reuter-Rice, Cheryl Rodgers, Ryan Shaw and Eleanor Stevenson were recently accepted into the Fall Path to Independence Grant Writing Program co-sponsored by DUSON and the Duke University School of Medicine.
Eleanor Stevenson recently presented on "The Hidden Patient, Towards Understanding the Experience of Male Infertility" at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in Salt Lake City.
Stevenson was also elected as Vice Chair of the ASRM Nurse Professional Group for a five year team which includes three years has Chair.
Eleanor Stevenson recently published an article entitled "Certain Less Invasive Infertility Treatments Associated with Different Levels of Pregnancy-Related Anxiety in Pregnancies Conceived via In Vitro Fertilization" in the January/March issue of the Journal of Reproduction and Infertility. Co-author includes Dr. Richard Sloane with Duke University School of Medicine.
Eleanor Stevenson published an article entitled "Male subfertility as a chronic illness: the role of adaptive challenges" in the March issue of the Journal of Human Fertility. Co-author includes Kevin McEleny from Newcastle, UK.
DNP student Meghann Batten and Eleanor Stevenson publish an article entitled "Implementation of a Hydrotherapy Protocol to Improve Postpartum Pain Management" in the April issue of the Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health.
DNP alumni Christine Wollenhaup, Eleanor Stevenson, Consulting Associate Julie Thompson, and Helen Gordon publish an article entitled "Implementation of a Modified Bedside Handoff for a Postpatum Unit" in the June issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration. Gloria Nunn with Emory Healthcare was another co-author.

Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON) will host the 2011 Clinical Instructor Intensive August 12-13 in the Christine Siegler Pearson Building at Duke University. The two-day intensive organized by the Institute for Educational Excellence will cover clinical teaching strategies for developing and strengthening clinical education for pre-licensure nursing students.
