Message from the Dean: New Appointments, Promotions and Transitions

It’s my pleasure to announce the following:

Virginia Chris Muckler, Assistant Clinical Professor in the School of Nursing to Associate Clinical Professor in the School of Nursing, effective  October 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021.

Dori Steinberg, Assistant Research Professor of Global Health Institute to Assistant Professor (Tenure Track ) in the School of Nursing, effective January 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019.

Duke University School of Nursing Honors Faculty Excellence

On May 11, 2011, Duke University School of Nursing held an awards ceremony where three faculty members were honored for their accomplishments.Assistant Professor Helen Gordon received the Distinguished Teaching Award. The award recognizes and rewards demonstrated effectiveness, innovation, and collegial support in teaching at the Duke University School of Nursing. She also received the Outstanding Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) Faculty Award.

Bettger, Titch Named DUSON Teaching Fellows for 2013-2014

Drs. Janet Prvu Bettger and Frank Titch have been selected as DUSON Teaching Fellows for 2013-2014. The Teaching Fellowship program at DUSON recognizes the importance of teaching, advances the pedagogical expertise of faculty, and provides opportunities for select faculty to continually develop that expertise in ways that will have a significant impact on the practice and science of nursing education.

Titch Appointed Chair of NBCRNA Equipment and Technology CPC Core Module Recognition Panel

Frank Titch has been appointed to chair the Equipment and Technology CPC Core Module Recognition Panel by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. The panel is responsible for reviewing Continued Professional Certification (CPC) module content to ensure it meets instructional design requirements.

Faculty and Student Presentations at Pursuing Radical Transformation in Nursing Education Conference

The following faculty and students gave presentations at the fifth national Pursuing Radical Transformation in Nursing Education Conference held Nov. 14-16, 2014:

  • Valerie Sabol - "Developing New Teaching Material: Bariatric Care as a Case in Point"
  • Frank Titch - "Team-based Learning: Insights Gained"
  • Mariam Kayle, PhD student; Ashley Munteanu, MSN student; and Danielle Rourke, ABSN student - "The Meaning of Excellence in Nursing Education: Student Voices"

Titch, Vacchiano, Blood-Siegfried Publish in Anesthesia eJournal

DUSON faculty members Frank Titch, Chuck Vacchiano and Jane Blood-Siegfried coauthored an article with Dr. Tracey Holsinger from the Durham VA Medical Center entitled "Improving anesthetic depth assessment during electroconvulsive therapy with bispectral index monitoring: A pilot quality improvement project" that has been published by Anesthesia eJournal.
