    Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON) has selected Kevin Momber as its University Scholar for academic year 2012-2013. Momber, who worked at Duke University Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), is pursuing a master of science degree in nurse anesthesia at Duke.

    At the 11th annual International Nursing Simulation/Learning Resources Centers Conference, June 20-23, in San Antonio, Texas, Clinical Instructor Kathleen Conn received first place in the education tract for a poster she presented and co-authored with Center for Nursing Discovery Coordinator Margie Molloy and Assistant Professor Terry Ward entitled "Using Technology as an Innovative Approach to Enhance Intellectual Empathy in Nursing Students." Associate Consultant Rosa Solórzano received third prize in the education tract for a poster she presented and co-authored with Clinical Instructor

    Rachel Richesson and team submitted an NIH R13 application entitled "Diabetes Data Standards Collaborative Conferences" requesting funding for a three-year period with a start date of April 1, 2013. The explosive adoption of electronic health records is creating extraordinary amounts of electronic data and unprecedented opportunities to improve patient care and safety, translational research, population research, and population health. However, opportunities to leverage these data are limited by the current lack of data standards.

    Debra Brandon, Diane Holditch-Davis, and team submitted an NIH R21 application entitled "Cumulative Factors Influencing Late Preterm Infant Health Through Six Months" requesting funding for a two-year period with a start date of April 1, 2013. Only three studies have examined the psychological well-being of mothers of late preterm infants; only four studies, most of them conducted in the 1980s, compared parenting of late preterm infants to that of full-term infants.

    The Dean’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion has begun work to enhance equity, opportunity, inclusiveness, and respect at DUSON. A number of faculty and staff members are assisting in the formulation of approaches to diversity and inclusivity and the identification and development of three school-wide initiatives. The initiatives will be included in a formal report due in mid-September to President Brodhead.

He was selected to help showcase the successes of the University-Based Training (UBT) program.
