    Marva Price invited Duke School of Nursing ABSN students to assist her and a volunteer team from Duke University Medical Center with the annual prostate cancer screening weekend in recognition of September as prostate cancer awareness month. A total of 398 men voluntarily participated. Students took charge of blood pressures as well as heights and weights, which are used to calculate the BMI for each participant. Price's research discovered that an elevated BMI is a risk factor for an abnormal prostate-specific antigen blood test.

    At the September meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists, Frank Titch was selected to serve on the reentry to practice subcommittee of the Continued Professional Practice committee. The reentry to practice committee will develop and recommend to the board new guidelines and policies for how Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists who have left active practice for an extended period can safely reenter practice and be recertified.
