Samples of Partnership Projects

Health Care Quality Improvement/Process Improvement

  • Project: Develop, implement and evaluate an acute care advanced practice nursing role and pilot education program in one hospital of a large hospital system.
  • Outcome: For one class of graduates, a five-year follow-up indicated success in implementing the role in the intensive care units, thus freeing surgeons for additional surgical time in lieu of being in the ICU.

Nursing Education

  • Project: Educate nurses and allied health professionals on population health, population and individual care coordination and transitions in care.
  • Outcome: Over 450 graduates from the 12-week program (available online/hybrid at Duke or at client’s site) are employed as care coordinators.

Heath Care Leadership Development

  • Project: Educate nursing health care leaders from two countries in advanced leadership and improve nursing communication across the national borders.
  • Outcome: Both sides working together in the conference setting led to mutual cooperation and understanding and the first exchange of visiting nurses between hospitals of each country.

Accreditation Consultation

  • Project: Provide initial consultation and assistance with the standardization of roles and preparation of advance practice nurses in Taiwan
  • Outcome: Two on-site visits and follow-up resulted in a team in-country working on standardization.
