Thanks to the Faculty Development Funds from the Office of the Executive Vice Dean, on October 3-5th, DUSON was an official sponsor of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics’ Silver (25th) Anniversary Conference in Bethesda, MD. As part of this sponsorship, DUSON had a display/exhibit that showcased the work our faculty are doing in research and education related to genetics and genomics. The sponsorship also included providing a small research grant in DUSON’s name to Linda D. Ward, PhD, ARNP (Washington State University) for her research proposal titled, “Assessment of Genomic Literacy among Baccalaureate Nursing Students in the United States”. For the next year, the DUSON logo and website link will be posted on the ISONG main page along with other schools/companies who sponsored the conference. This contributes to our overall mission to innovate in research and education, specifically related to genomics.
DUSON faculty presenters at the conference were:
- Jennifer Dungan, who presented a podium titled, “Development and Implementation of an Interdisciplinary Elective in Genomics and Personalized Medicine with a Personal Genome Testing Option” and a poster titled, “Unique Gene- and Disease-Specific Survival Effects in Two Case-Control studies of Coronary Artery Disease”.
- Karin Reuter-Rice, who presented a poster titled, “Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury: Creating a Sample Repository for Future Genetic Study”.
- Allison Vorderstrasse, who presented a podium titled, “T2D Genetic Risk Counselling & Testing in Primary Care”.
