Janice Humphreys and team submitted their Duke Bass Connections application entitled "Violence Exposure and Sickness." This proposal requests funding for a one-year period with a start date of July 1, 2014. The purpose of this project is to explore over time the relationship between lifetime exposure to intimate partner violence in a sample of community-based women in order to better understand the mechanisms of actions that ultimately affect their health. We seek to document the full range of their life exposures, their daily habits (i.e., diet, physical activity, sleep) as well as their physiologic responses. The intent is to pilot test research methods and the creation of a database that can used to explore a range of potential mechanisms that connect adverse lifetime exposures and sickness and to both follow and disentangle these trajectories over time.
