Dr. Elizabeth Jeter, PhD is an Associate in Research for the HEEAT Lab. Her research experience includes technology delivered interventions, medication access, and interprofessional clinical team collaboration. She is published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association (JAPHA), Journal of Pharmacy Technology, and Journal of Behavioral Medicine.
Dr. Schenita Randolph, PhD, MH, RN is an Associate Professor in the Duke University School of Nursing. Her overarching goal as a nurse scholar is to address the root causes of health disparities and promote sexual health equity for racial/ethnic minority populations, more specifically, Black women, adolescents, families and communities. She uses a community-engaged approach to include populations of study in the research process and beyond. Dr. Randolph is currently the Principal Investigator of a funded project by Gilead Sciences to develop a Salon-Based Intervention to promote the awareness and uptake of PrEP among Black women living in the United States South. She is also a Fellow in the inaugural Betty Irene Moore Fellowship where she is developing the first nurse-led, web-based application to address the co-occurrence of HIV transmission and racial discrimination among Black male adolescents and young adults.
Dr. Randolph is also a Co-Investigator for the Duke Center for REsearch to AdvanCe Healthcare Equity (REACH Equity). Funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), this Center of Excellence on Minority Health and Health Disparities is designed to conduct multidisciplinary research, research training and community engagement activities focused on improving minority health and reducing health disparities. Dr. Randolph serves as one of the Center’s Co-Directors for the Community Engagement and Dissemination Core.
Dr. Ragan Johnson, DNP, FNP-BC, CNE, is an associate clinical professor at Duke University School of Nursing. Dr. Johnson earned a DNP with a public health concentration in 2012 and a MS in Nursing in 2005, both from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. She received her BS in nursing from Tennessee State University in 2001. Her nursing and advanced practice nursing career has focused on improving health equity and caring for patients from underserved communities.
Dr. Johnson has focused her scholarship on translating evidence-based interventions to the communities at risk. She has a strong passion for reducing new infections of HIV among Black adolescents and young adults. She has used barbers and barber shops as community venues to reach hardly reached populations, at places and with the people they trust. Currently, Dr. Johnson is serving as Co-Investigator on one funded grant for Black women in salons to increase knowledge, awareness, and utility of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). She is also Co-Investigator on a second grant aimed to increase conversations between Black fathers and sons around healthy sexual behavior.
