The Health Innovation Lab has launched several successful projects since inception. Medical Devices EasyShift EasyShift™ is a device that repositions immobile patients in acute and long-term care. It is designed to improve caregiver productivity, reduce caregiver back strain, and reduce life-threatening patient complications. Coviage COVIAGE is an isolation chamber to be used around a patient's bed (or stretcher) designed for COVID-19 positive patients and patients with other infectious pathogens. The goal of this device is to minimize contamination of the environment and protect healthcare workers. I-Drape I-Drape is a disposable intubation drape, aimed at protecting anesthesia providers from respiratory droplets during airway manipulation. Line Snuggler Line Snuggler™ sleeves are a design-patented and proven nursing product for keeping central lines and connected IV tubing covered and contained, thus reducing costs and apprehension, increasing patient comfort and decreasing the number of line contamination protocols. Digital Health Extend EXTEND is a NIH-funded study at Duke Health System to help adults who have difficulty managing their type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. The goal is to improve their health through the use of technology and monitoring. Log2Lose Log2Lose is a NIH-funded study for adults with obesity from Madison, WI and Durham, NC. Participants receive an evidence-based behavioral weight management program comprising incentivized and non-incentivized weight loss interventions. Care Delivery Models DEFT The Duke Elder Family/Caregiver Training Center was created to train, educate and support caregivers during hospital to home transitions. This academic-clinical-community model is a novel care delivery process that can be integrated into health system workflows. DEFT utilizes students from the MSN and ABSN programs at DUSON.
