Specialties

DUSON additionally has two specialties that focus primarily on men’s health.

The Veterans Health Care concentration of the MSN Program allows students enrolled in the FNP, AGNP, WHNP, and PMHNP majors to gain the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to attend to the unique health care needs of the veteran population and their families. Students who enroll in the specialty also gain clinical experience in a veteran-centric environment at Veterans Affairs Medical Centers. In addition to full enrollment in the specialty for NP students, the Foundations in Veterans Health Care course is available as an elective course for ABSN and other health professions students (MD, PA, PT, OT, Divinity school, social work, etc).

The HIV specialty is available to nurse practitioner students and licensed practicing nurse practitioners wishing to seek HIV specialty training. DUSON is one of five schools to receive funding from HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration) to provide professional development of nurse practitioners in HIV/AIDS care. The majority of people living with HIV are men, and the population group at the highest risk of HIV is MSM-particularly young, Black and African American MSM. The goal of this program is to train nurse practitioners
