Personalized Health Assessments

We visited our families and used our personalized health assessment questions to gather as much information as possible. We took blood pressures, pulses and listened to their heart and lung sounds. The information gathered assisted us in developing our presentation topics that we would give to the members of the community next week. We returned to UPOLI to complete research on hypertension, diabetes, diet, stress, road safety, smoking cessation, hand washing, teeth brushing, family planning and women’s health.

After working for a few hours with our UPOLI student we took a field trip to the Plaza del la Revolución where the Museo Nacional: Palacio de la Cultura, Antigua Catedral and Casa del Pueblo are all located. The Casa del Pueblo is the equivalent to the White House in the United States. It was amazing to see the rich history of Nicaragua and take some great group photos! That night we met back up with our UPOLI counterparts to share dinner and a show at a local restaurant, La casa de los Mejia Godoy. We listened to traditional Nicaraguan music and laughed at the jokes the lead singer was telling throughout the night.
