The Office of Global and Community Health Initiatives (OGACHI) is a vital part of Duke University School of Nursing’s mission to address community health disparities and elevate nursing and healthcare on an international scale. In an increasingly diverse and interconnected world, OGACHI’s global nursing initiatives empower culturally attuned healthcare leaders to meet the current and emerging needs of communities worldwide.
Since 2006, OGACHI has championed initiatives at the local, regional, and international levels. These efforts build on our legacy as a leader in nursing education, research, and clinical practice while remaining steadfastly aligned with our commitment to advancing health equity and addressing community and global health issues.
By fostering collaborative partnerships and innovative strategies, OGACHI enhances the delivery of nursing and healthcare worldwide. Our bi-directional global activities amplify the School of Nursing’s mission and ensure that nurse leaders are well-prepared to tackle evolving health challenges in diverse and complex environments.
OGACHI Mission, Vision, and Values
The Office of Global and Community Health Initiatives is committed to advancing health equity through education, research, and innovative collaborations. OGACHI’s global health and nursing initiatives foster meaningful partnerships and promote shared values, supporting professionals and communities worldwide. These principles guide our efforts to address local and worldwide health issues.
Our Mission
Together, we prepare global citizens and empower students, clinicians, scholars, and partners to promote health equity, both in our local community and worldwide, through education, research, and innovative programming.
Our Vision
Through our global office, we’re taking the Duke University School of Nursing to the world and bringing the world to the School of Nursing. Through the Community Health Improvement Partnership Program (D-CHIPP), we’re partnering with the community to advance health.
Our Values
OGACHI fully supports the core values of the Duke University School of Nursing. These values — excellence, integrity, collaboration, respect, innovation, diversity and inclusiveness — are essential to our work. However, by the nature of our global and community health work, there are additional core values guiding this work. These values are:
- Mutually beneficial: The work we do is intended to be sustainable with a non-paternalistic, non-ethnocentric approach where the strengths, talents, and resources of both partners are optimized.
- Focused: A strategic and deliberate approach is utilized to efficiently utilize resources and to ensure capacity, reciprocity, and sustainability.
- Humility: Through a humble approach, we strive to promote fairness and acceptance while always demonstrating sensitivity, respect, and integrity in the work we do.
- Passion: As individuals and a collective team, we approach our work with fervency.
