Women of the Barrio

We started another beautiful morning with breakfast at our hotel and then departed once again for UPOLI to meet with our students and their instructor Georgina. Today was the first time we presented one of our health education posters to some of the women of the barrio that we have been serving. With the help of the UPOLI students, we created multiple informational posters concerning the widespread health issues facing the adult population here in Nicaragua. These topics included Diabetes and diet, as well as stress and health.

Upon arriving at the CAESC, we gathered with the UPOLI students and created a plan to present. We utilized their translating skills because the group of women who attended the presentation had many questions concerning our health topics, particularly exercise! We had a good time showing them some of the stretching that could be sued for exercise and they were very receptive to our presentation! Afterwards, we headed out into the barrio to meet with our families. We worked to continue to build trust with our families and gain a greater understanding of their needs. Each of our families have been very welcoming and receptive to all the information we have been providing them throughout our assessments.  The trip may be short but we are working towards making a difference in regards to their home’s safety, health routines, and diets, among other life matters. We are ending the night now with our wonderful travel colleague, Kevin, cooking us a fine meal.
