MN Pre-Licensure Need-Based Scholarship
The Duke University School of Nursing need-based scholarship provides newly admitted MN students who demonstrate the greatest financial need with a grant toward tuition.
Scholarship awards range up to 100% tuition in total over four semesters of the program. Current student scholarships are awarded prior to admittance into the program and continue at the same amount for all four semesters – no renewal application is needed.
Important Details
- Applications submitted after the deadline cannot be accepted. Please review all deadlines carefully.
Fall 2025 Scholarship Application Deadline: February 1, 2025. - Errors in application submission may delay receipt of your application and tax documents, which could result in your application not being reviewed.
- Parent information is required if you were born on or after January 1, 1990.
- Applying for the need-based scholarship is voluntary.
Apply for a Need-Based Scholarship as soon as you complete your admissions application. If admitted, your scholarship application will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Office:
- Apply for Admission. Your profile information will be saved in our system.
- Apply for a Need-Based Scholarship shortly after you finish your admission application.
Scholarship application materials are viewed by the Financial Aid Office only and have no bearing on the admission process.
How To Apply:
Students born on or after January 1, 1990:
Complete the 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):
- School Code: 002920
- College Grade Level: Master’s, Doctorate or Graduate Certificate Program
Complete the 2025-2026 CSS Profile with your/your spouse’s information AND both parents’ information:
- School Code: 2185 Duke U. School of Nursing
- Student’s 2025-26 Year in School: Entering Graduate
- Parent information is required
- Is the student transferring to this school: Select NO
- $25 fee to submit the CSS Profile Upload tax documents to the College Board' IDOC Service
- 2023 student (and spouse, if applicable) federal tax returns with all schedules and W-2s
- 2023 parent federal tax returns with all schedules and W-2s for both parents
- College Board emails IDOC information ~24 hours after the Profile is submitted.

Applicants with No Contact with a Biological Parent
Applicants with no contact with a biological parent who are unable to submit a parent tax return should follow these steps:
- Complete a Noncustodial Parent Waiver (NCP) form found on the CollegeBoard website
- Upload the NCP form and a third-party letter confirming you have no contact with your parent to the IDOC Service of CollegeBoard (third-party letter may not be from a family member, but can be from a therapist, school counselor, pastor, etc.)
- Email SON_finaid@dm.duke.edu to let us know your documents are ready for review at the IDOC Service
- We will review your documentation and email you within 3-5 business days with a decision on whether the noncustodial parent's financial information will be waived.
