$500,000 Challenge Fund Creates Scholarship Opportunities

$500,000 Challenge Fund Creates Scholarship Opportunities

Duke University School of Nursing is excited to announce establishment of a $500,000 challenge fund!  This fund will match new gifts for endowed scholarships during 2017-2018.

Commitments of $100,000 or more will be matched on a 1:2 basis.  For example, a gift of $100,000 will be matched with $50,000 for scholarships that will provide merit or need-based support for students pursuing a degree in the School of Nursing.  When fully utilized, this challenge fund will leverage another $1M or more in scholarship support. These matching dollars will quickly increase the impact of endowments established by our donors.

Duke nursing students come to us with stellar leadership qualities and innovative ideas that will impact the health and well-being of communities near and far. These bright, ambitious students choose Duke because they believe it will provide them with the resources and support to further strengthen their abilities. However, as you know, the choice to attend Duke comes at a steep price.

Once students graduate, many face an overwhelming amount of debt. One of our highest priorities is to reduce debt for all our students and make our high quality nursing education accessible to deserving students.

Your help can make a significant difference in the lives of our students and in the ability of Duke School of Nursing to attract talented nursing leaders.

The challenge is currently set to run through 2018.  Commitments of $100,000 or more during the year (to establish new or add to existing scholarship endowments) are eligible to receive the matching funds. These commitments may be paid over five years.

For additional information about matching eligibility and ways of giving, please contact Anita Stallings at anita.stallings@duke.edu or Diana Staples at diana.staples@duke.edu in the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs.
