This elective brought the resources of the medical humanities and ethics to bear on the twin pandemics of COVID-19 and systemic racism. All students participated in eight, monthly evening humanities-focused small groups led by health professionals from various disciplines, as well as completed 12 hours of additional activities of the students' choosing.

DUSON faculty were also involved in this inaugural elective. Jill Brennan-Cook, assistant professor, was a co-facilitator of the "Seeing is Believing" small group. Stephanie Gedzyk-Nieman, assistant professor, was co-facilitator of the "COVID Stories: Narrative Medicine in the Midst of an Epidemic" small group. Anne Derouin, assistant dean, MSN Program, was a book club facilitator, and Valerie Sabol, chair of the Healthcare in Adult Populations Division, was a co-facilitator for the electives.
