Lakecha Alston joined DUSON's Academic Affairs as administrative assistant for the associate dean for Academic Affairs. She assumed the position held by Teresa Jenkins following her retirement on August 30.

Most recently, Alston provided expert support for Ernie Rushing and the DUSON Office of Admissions and Student Services as the office manager/staff assistant. She brings over 16 years of administrative support and office management experience. She has supported managers, directors and senior leadership teams in corporate and academic settings, including presidents and senior executives for Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, Tarheel Electric Corporation and Halifax County Schools.

A native of Washington, DC, Alston earned her AA degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2012. She considers herself to be a newlywed after being married to her husband for just three years. They enjoy raising their 18 month old Shih Tzu named Austin and have three children in total, ranging from 23-26 years of age. Alston said "The best part of being an administrative assistant is to be of service and to help make the people that I work with happy."
