And the New Staff Awards Go To...

Each day, staff members are witnessed demonstrating their commitment and dedication to the high standards of the mission and vision of the Duke University School of Nursing. DUSON is fortunate to have employees who are enthusiastic about the important work they do and the contributions they make to the success of the School.

It is for this very reason that four new staff awards have been created. These awards will be presented later this spring as part of the annual awards recognition program.  Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate by nominating any staff member who is worthy of receiving an award!

The new awards are:

  1. The Community & Collaboration Award which will be presented to the person who influences others in working in support of the greater DUSON mission while collaborating across DUSON departments, programs, divisions, and the Duke University community to positively influence others.

  2. The Leadership Award for a staff member who is open minded, resourceful, enthusiastic, respectful, a good communicator, flexible, and proactive. This individual demonstrates his or her investment in the School’s goals and success. This leader has the aptitude, desire to grow, and overall potential that make him/her a great DUSON staff member.

  3. The Outstanding Service to Students Award will be a student-nominated award presented to the staff member who has gone above and beyond to assist students. This person is accessible, patient, approachable, and is committed to their role in support of our students. The staff member exemplifies consistent support and dedication to the education, scholarship, and success of student educational and personal growth.

  4. The Peer to Peer Award which is a staff-nominated award presented to the DUSON staff member who fosters a sense of community, serves as a positive influence, and goes above and beyond to actively engage in creating outstanding levels of service to other staff members within DUSON. This person has been identified by his or her peers to be exceptional, by making careful, honest, considerate decisions, and leading by example in their professional interactions.

Additionally, the Dean’s Commitment to Excellence Award will continue and will be presented to a staff member selected from the recipients of the School’s Commitment to Excellence Staff Recognition Program. Nominees for the Dean’s Commitment to Excellence Award must have met one or more of the following criteria throughout the year:

  • Consistently demonstrates excellence in the performance of their job responsibilities.

  • Consistently exhibits a superb and ongoing high level of service to their customers.

  • Consistently produces the highest quality of work product.

  • Performed a significant and exceptional role in the completion of a high impact project or initiative.

Recipients of each of these awards will receive a framed certificate, a $500 award check, and have their name placed on an award placard in the DUSON building.
