Announcements from the Vice Provost for Research
Machine Learning Winter School
The 2019 Machine Learning Winter School (MLWS) maxed out at 205 registrations within five days of announcing the program! MLWS will introduce the mathematics and statistics at the foundation of modern machine learning, and will provide details on case studies, demonstrating how this technology is used in practice. If you were placed on the waitlist or unable to attend MLWS, please email plus-datascience@duke.edu to join a mailing list to stay informed about the 2019 Machine Learning Summer School (that we expect will occur in either June or July of 2019).
+DS Machine Learning for Medicine Reading Group
The Machine Learning in Medicine Reading Group meets monthly to review recent, successful applications of machine learning in medicine that have potential to disrupt clinical practice. The sessions are targeted toward a clinical audience and place equal emphasis on methodology and clinical impact. Group meetings also serve as a forum for participants to exchange ideas and discuss their own research at any stage in its development. Participants are also encouraged to recommend and/or present papers relevant to their own clinical specialty or research interests. Please email plus-datascience@duke.edu if you would like to join the Machine Learning for Medicine Reading Group mailing list.
AI Art Competition
+DS is excited to announce the Duke AI Art Competition to be held in early 2019. In-person learning experiences will be scheduled in January to explore the tools needed for creating AI art. Submissions will be open to all Duke students (graduate and undergraduate) and prizes will be awarded to the top three submissions, with first place taking home $2,500. Please email plus-datascience@duke.edu if you would like to join an email list to receive notifications about the AI art learning sessions and competition.
