Biederman Hosts Durham Mayor Schewel at Health & Housing Meeting

Biederman with Mayor SchewelDonna Biederman, associate professor, recently hosted Durham Mayor Steve Schewel at the Partnership for Healthy Durham’s Health & Housing Sub-Committee to inform the members about the Durham Affordable Housing Bond, which is on the ballot in November. Biederman is the Co-Chair of the Health & Housing Sub-Committee. Mayor Schewel provided a detailed explanation of where the dollars raised by homeowner property tax will be used to increase the number of affordable housing units, preserve the affordable housing rental units available now, provide opportunities for new homeownership, and support eviction prevention. A portion of this money will be used to renovate many Durham Housing Authority properties (which do not receive federal funding for upkeep), including J.J. Henderson, a clinical placement site for DUSON’s ABSN program. To learn more, go to durhamaffordablehousingbond.com
