Cary Visits Duke-NUS Campus and Presents in Singapore

Michael Cary was awarded an international travel award from Duke-NUS several months ago, which allowed him to travel to Singapore. The award is provided to faculty who would like to explore new research collaborations by visiting Singapore and other international sites.

While in Singapore, Cary had the opportunity to broaden his understand of health care delivery and experience different research environments and cultures. He met with Duke-NUS faculty, Drs. Kavita Venkataraman and Gerald Koh to discuss the development of Cross-National Comparison of Health Outcomes among hip fracture patients treated in the U.S. and Singapore rehabilitation hospitals. They were able to outline steps to generate preliminary data and identified potential grant mechanisms for funding.

Cary also had an opportunity to visit two hospitals, Singapore General Hospital and Ang Mo Kio-Thye Hua Kwan Hospital, to gain a better understanding of acute and post-acute hip fracture rehabilitation and recovery. Pictured in the photo is Dr. Su-Fee Lim, clinical lead for rehabilitiation services at Singapore General Hospital, Venkataraman, and Cary.

He also gave a professional talk entitled "Post-acute Hip Fracture Outcomes: Using Large Datasets to Discover New Insights and Advance a Program of Research" to more than 50 faculty, graduate students and administrators at Duke-NUS Medical School.
