From Chancellor Washington: One Year Anniversary

Remember April 1 a year ago?  I certainly do.  That day I sent you a note expressing the honor I felt in assuming my new leadership role at Duke.  A year later, I am even more appreciative of the privileged opportunity I have to serve on our team as Chancellor, President and CEO.  So this brief anniversary note is really just to say thank you.

Thank you for your dedication to our mission and our values.  Thank you for your remarkable creativity, impressive energy and unwavering commitment to excellence and impact.  Thank you for your outstanding work that has resulted in many significant accomplishments across Duke Health over the past 12 months.

I am very proud of what we have achieved together.  And I am acutely aware that our accomplishments are due to the combined efforts of faculty, staff, and trainees excelling throughout our exceptional organization. As I have said on multiple occasions, you are our greatest strength.

April 1 will forever be a special day to me – for it marks the first day of my association with our distinguished institution and my partnership with you.  Thank you for the many ways you have nurtured and supported our shared endeavors over the last year.  Because of you, we can look to the future with excitement and confidence as we Advance Health Together.

Sincerely,

A. Eugene Washington, M.D.
