DEFT Center Receives Contribution from Mary Cannon Morris Foundation
The Duke Elder Family/Caregiver Training (DEFT) Center recently received a gift in the amount of $5,000 from the Mary Cannon Morris Charitable Foundation. The DEFT Center is funded by the Duke Endowment to develop, implement, and evaluate an innovative and scalable academic-medical-community model for teaching, training and supporting caregivers of elders following a hospital or rehabilitiaton discharge. The DEFT team consist of Cristina Hendrix, Center director, Doreen Matters, program director, Tamara Griffin, social worker, and Stephanie Burg, registered nurse.
The Mary Cannon Morris Charitable Foundation is a philanthropy, voluntarism and grantmaking foundation founded in 1980 after the late Edwin Morris. Morris was chairman of Greensboro-based Blue Bell, Inc., then the maker of Wrangler Jeans. Morris known for his support of causes had donated millions to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center. After his death, the organization continues to support health care and community groups by donating millions in grants and donations.
