DeVane-Johnson Presents at Inaugural Birth Symposium

Stephanie DeVane-Johnson recently presented at the inaugural Birth Symposium held at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, NC. Her presentation was entitled "Breastfeeding Complexities in the African-American Community: "Boobie Traps," Cultural Conditioning and the Restructuring Process."
This presentation was an extension of her research about cultural and historical influences on African American mother's infant feeding decisions, as well as a discussion on how health care professionals and birth workers can mitigate the breastfeeding disparity that exists for African Americans.
