DNP Alumna Sutton, Faculty Member Kreider, Staff Member Thompson and Colleagues Publish Article in Journal of Vascular Nursing

Melissa Sutton, DNP '18; Kathryn Kreider, assistant professor and Julie Thompson, research associate/statistical consultant recently published an article entitled "Improving outcomes in patients with peripheral arterial disease" in the Journal of Vascular Nursing. Co-authors include Samir Germanwala DO of Longview Cardiac and Vascular Consultants and Johathan Greifenkamp of Longview Cardiac and Vascular Consultants.

Highlights

• Close follow-up and management after endovascular intervention improves blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol.

• Statistically significant improvement in vascular quality-of-life scores and 6-minute-walk distance was seen after endovascular intervention and risk-factor reduction.

• Rutherford class scores improved after endovascular and educational intervention with improvement in patient-reported symptoms.

• Walking programs improve distances patients can ambulate and may improve patients' quality of life, but unsupervised programs lack patient compliance.
