FUNDING

Duke Incubation Fund
Application Deadline: September 23rd, 2019
The Duke Incubation Fund offers awards to Duke faculty, graduate students, post-docs and medical residents and fellows to support early-stage ideas with the potential to go to market and impact society.  Each award will consist of up to $20,000 (direct costs only). Funds may be spent within Duke or within a start-up company formed to commercialize the innovation.  Applications are welcome from all fields of inquiry.  Learn more at https://entrepreneurship.duke.edu/incubationfund/.

Intellectual Community Planning Grants (ICPG)
Deadline: October 18, 2019
The Provost’s Office is offering support to Duke faculty who are interested in convening a group of colleagues to begin or test a new collaboration around a shared intellectual interest. Faculty Teaching/Research Enhancement Grants (FTREG)
Deadline: October 31, 2019
The Provost’s Office is offering support to Duke faculty to acquire skills, knowledge, or experiences outside of or beyond their main discipline or to underwrite a trip to scope out a new direction for research. Funds awarded will most likely fall within the range of $2,000 to $5,000.

Request for Proposals: 2020-2021 Bass Connections Projects
Deadline: November 4 at 5 p.m.

Bass Connections is now accepting proposals for 2020-2021 projects that engage faculty, undergraduates and graduate/professional students in the interdisciplinary exploration of complex societal challenges. Please see the project proposal guidelines.

Collaborative Project Courses Faculty Fellows Program
Deadline: October 15 at 5 p.m.

Duke Learning Innovation, in partnership with Bass Connections, is launching a new Faculty Fellows program to support faculty interested in designing (or re-designing) courses that are collaborative and project-based. Participating faculty will receive $5,000 and guidance from pedagogy experts, as well as the opportunity to collaborate on course (re)design with a group of faculty from across campus.

Special Call for Proposals: Immigration
Deadline: October 28 at 5 p.m.
Bass Connections is currently accepting proposals for new projects addressing research related to immigration. Faculty interested in proposing such a project should review the immigration project proposal guidelines. Please note: This special call for proposals does not take the place of the normal Bass Connections RFP process. All other proposals for year-long Bass Connections project teams should be submitted through our normal RFP process.

Improving Innovation With Customer Discovery

In this workshop, individuals and teams will gain real-world, hands-on experience learning how customer discovery can impact the innovation process. Learn how to talk with and learn from customers, partners, and competitors, along with how to deal with the chaos and uncertainty of creating ventures and commercializing innovations. Nationally certified I-Corps instructor Elizabeth Good Mazhari will lead participants in an introduction to customer discovery and provide a foundation in business model generation.
