Duke International Travel Policy Update: Restriction Changes

Effective October 10, 2016, Provost Sally Kornbluth modified restrictions on the below destinations based on advice from Duke’s Global Travel Advisory Committee (GTAC):

  • Ecuador - the border area with Peru has been removed from the restriction.  The areas along Ecuador’s border with Colombia continue to pose a threat to the safety and security of visitors to this region, therefore a restriction remains in place for this part of the country.
  • Tunisia - travel to the “border areas with Libya and Algeria” has been added to the Restricted Regions List (RRL) given the tensions that exist in this region.

If you are aware of travelers to either region, please share this with them.

The Fall meeting of GTAC was also an opportunity to review petitions from Undergraduate students with plans to travel to destinations that are restricted in Spring 2017.  There were no petitions received.  We understand that often funding for spring travel has not yet occurred at this point in time.  If, in the coming weeks, you learn of any students traveling to a destination that has a restriction, please guide them to the petition option that is now embedded into the Travel Registry process/software.
