Duke Unlock is a new solution that helps users securely and easily log in to Duke sites in one step. It both bypasses Duo and the need to type in NetID passwords when logging into Duke’s services.

It’s now available on eligible devices and makes logging in so much easier. You can use it to log in on both your laptop and cell phone in just one step. To find out if your devices are eligible and to register, visit Duke Unlock website

Duke Unlock is a supplement to passwordless authentication, which has become the standard for security. Passwordless authentication allows you to authenticate to your device, as opposed to authenticating to services with passwords.

What’s wrong with passwords? In short, they are less secure. All human-generated passwords are vulnerable and, over the long term, can end up costing money and privacy when compromised. Plus, people forget passwords all the time, and it can be complex and time-consuming to recover them.

Turns out, your fingertip is easy to use, easy to set up and offers more protection against remote attacks. Watch a how-to video for Duke Unlock.

Duke Unlock, a WebAuthn implementation for Shibboleth, was developed in-house by Duke’s OIT (shout out to Shilen Patel and Mary McKee.)
