Duke MIDS Capstone Projects

Duke Social Science Research Institute launched a new masters degree in Interdisciplinary Data Science (MIDS) this year with a group of 36 remarkable students who are currently taking a year of core data science classes. In their second year (beginning fall of 2019), they will become members of what we hope will be vertically integrated MIDS Capstone Teams that involve faculty, external partners and post-docs, doctoral students and potentially undergraduates from domain areas relevant to the teams’ work. These MIDS Capstone Teams can originate with an external partner, with a Duke researcher or with a non-research partner internal to Duke. Duke Social Science Research Institute is now beginning the process of curating the projects that will become these MIDS Capstone Teams and hope to begin matching students to teams in early to mid-spring.

MIDS students can bring data science expertise to your projects, and Duke Social Science Research Institute will support them with our own infrastructure as well as project managers to insure your projects stay on track. Given the wide ranging interests of MIDS students, Duke Social Science Research Institute anticipates MIDS Capstones crossing many domain areas in the university. More information about MIDS Capstones is available at https://datascience.duke.edu/content/capstone.
