Dungan Submits American Association of Colleges of Nursing Application
Kudos to Jennifer Dungan and her entire team for the submission of their American Association of Colleges of Nursing application entitled "Duke for All of Us: Raleigh/Wake Community Engagement Project." This proposal requests funding for a 2.5 month period with a start date of May 1, 2018.
Growing gaps in health equity can be narrowed in part by adequate representation of diverse demographics in biomedical research. This is a tenet of the NIH’s national All of Us Research initiative. In support of efforts to improve the access to and impact of precision medicine in our greater Raleigh communities, we have assembled an expert team of personnel and resources at the Duke University School of Nursing in response to this call. By leveraging our established community partners in the greater Raleigh area and our social media networks, we propose an efficient and effective community outreach strategy of integrating the All of Us education components within our health fair booths at planned community events. One-on-one health screening provides the opportunity to engage directly with people and implement the NIH’s All of Us educational component.
The objective of our communication plan is to accelerate the dissemination of information for the All of Us Research Program to historically underrepresented communities in biomedical research (UBR) in the greater Raleigh, North Carolina area. The goal of the project is to increase knowledge of the All of Us precision medicine research initiative in the region, particularly among racial/ethnic minorities in rural and urban settings; the elderly, women, individuals with varying abilities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, and intersex (LGBTQI); and communities with lower educational attainment and lower socioeconomic status.
