<p>Seven people were celebrated on June 17 during a virtual presentation of the 2020 Alumni Awards Ceremony. More than 65 people attended.</p>

Anita Stallings, associate dean of Development & Alumni Affairs, introduced and concluded the ceremony. Dean Marion Broome gave some remarks and introduced each award winner.

"I am so incredibly proud of our nurses, whether they stayed in the field of nursing or their careers took a different path," Broome said. "Each has chosen a profession that's in service to others for the betterment of our communities. For that reason, it's always an honor to present our annual Alumni Awards. It's one of my favorite activities all year because I can not help but be inspired by each and every one of the award winners."  

This year's winners are:

  • Distinguished Contribution to Nursing Science: Sharron L. Docherty, PhD, PNP, FAAN, director of PhD in Nursing program

  • Distinguished Alumna: Carole Ann Klove, BSN’80, RN, JD

  • Distinguished Alumna: Elizabeth J. Barfield, EdD, RN, MSN'72, BSN'70, ASN

  • Trailblazer: Regalado “Reggie” Valerio Jr., DNP’17, CRNA

  • Clinical Practice Excellence: Sonya M. Glavin, MSN’98, FNP-C, IBCLC

  • Humanitarian: Amie Koch, BSN’04, MSN’08, DNP, FNP-C, RN, ACHPN, assistant professor

  • Lifetime Achievement: Jay E. Barrett, RN, BSN’70, MBA

Each year, the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding alumni and faculty during the school’s Reunion festivities. With the Reunion postponed, the ceremony was moved to a virtual format.
