DUSON and OGACHI Welcomes Visiting Scholars Jung and Torres

Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON) and the Office of Global and Community Health Initiatives welcomes two visiting scholars - Dukyoo Jung, PhD, and Gian Carlo Torres, PhD.

Jung, a professor at Ewha Women's University, College of Nursing in Seoul, Republic of Korea, arrived on August 15 for a one-year visit and will have a mentored and professional development experience working under the guidance of Jennie De Gagne, associate professor. During her time, she will:

  1. Engage in a variety of educational committees’ and institutions’ activities such as in the Institute for Educational Excellence (IEE) and Duke AHEAD. professions education and systematic reviews.

  2. Complete a current project (i.e., Development and evaluation of a clinical simulation for new graduate nurses) with Dr. De Gagne’s consultation.

  3. Participate in the studies of Dr. De Gagne’s current education projects on cybercivility in health professions education and systematic reviews.

  4. Participate in the following courses to further develop knowledge in those areas:

    1. N741: Facilitating Student Learning and Teaching Innovation

    2. N743: Assessment and Evaluation Strategies in Nursing Education

    3. N733: Integrating Technology into Nursing Education.

In addition, she will present a one-hour colloquium on global health while at DUSON. An announcement will be forthcoming in the future. Torres, an assistant professor at the University of Santo Tomas, School of Nursing in Manila, Philippines, arrived on August 22 for the Fall academic term and will have a mentored and professional development experience working under the guidance of Michael Relf, associate dean for global and community health affairs. During his time at DUSON, Dr. Torres will:

  1. Collaborate with Dr. Relf on the preparation of one manuscript developed from systematic review or qualitative metasynthesis.

  2. Participate in DUSON writing for publication workshop series.

  3. Participate in 1 – 2 formal courses (either from PhD and/or nursing education specialty) to enhance research and teaching skills.

  4. Meet with leaders in the Center for Nursing Discovery to expand skills in developing and evaluating simulation activities.
