DUSON Hosts Annual Advanced Practice Provider Symposium

Symposium 1On Nov 14, DUSON hosted the 7th Annual Advanced Practice Provider Symposium, followed by a Nurse Practitioner Week reception. For the past several years, Michael Zychowicz, professor and director of the Duke-Durham VA Nursing Academic Partnership (VANAP), has collaborated with VA Nurse Practitioner colleagues to plan and deliver a full day interprofessional symposium at DUSON focusing on health care for veterans. Lindsay Johnson has worked with the symposium planning team as well for the past several years, providing tremendous support for the coordination and delivery of this symposium.

Each year this symposium grows in success and national exposure. Participants have the option to attend the conference either face-to-face or online with a live stream feed of all lectures. This year’s symposium was a wild success. with close to 1,500 combined online and face-to-face participants. Nearly 100 health care providers attended this symposium at DUSON in person, traveling from as far away as San Francisco to attend. There were more than 1,300 registered online participants from across the US viewing more than 900 active live stream connections with multiple participants viewing each video feed. Without the IT support of Ramon Sotelo, we would not have been successful in delivering this symposium to such a large national audience.

Our Duke-VA partnership will soon begin working to plan next year’s 8th Annual Symposium.
