DUSON Strong: Join Us In Jamaica!

We hope you had a great summer and that the Fall 2016 semester is getting underway smoothly. With a new semester well underway, comes an opportunity for you to join DUSON in meeting our goal of becoming the most fit school of nursing in the nation.

How can you join?

Each semester, teams of faculty, staff and students will virtually race together to get DUSON to one of our global clinical immersion experience sites and back. The six to nine week races will be an opportunity to have some fun and be active! This fall semester DUSON Strong Will Run to Jamaica! This country is where our students have worked with the School of Nursing at the University of the West Indies at Mona. During their urban experience, students lived and worked in the capital Kingston. The race will start this Monday, September 12 and will end Monday, November 14.

I do not run; how can I participate?

The goal is to BE ACTIVE! You and your team will move along by reporting your activity ‘miles.’ During our first race to Wuhan, China, staff member Jane Halpin maintained her lead by walking before work each day, logging nearly eight exercise miles per day (Read her story here). It’s all self-reported, so if you are a swimmer or cyclist, great! Count it! Our only goal is to stay active!

What do I need to do now?

Visit nursing.duke.edu/faculty-and-staff/duson-strong to sign up and learn more. After you sign up, you will receive an email reminding you to submit your miles. You will receive this email reminder at 4:30 p.m. each day thereafter, unless you opt out of the daily email reminder. You can also log your miles directly on the race page as well as see immediate feedback, awards and street views.

If you were a part of previous races, you will need to sign up to participate in the Jamaica race and all other races thereafter.

Who will take home the gold?

In our races to China, Tanzania and back to DUSON, Team Staff took home the gold in each leg of the race. Will Team Faculty or Team Students take the lead when the gun sounds on September 12? At this point, it’s anyone’s race.

See you at the finish line! Ready…Set…Go!
