DUSON Welcomes Chow to the Center for Nursing Research

Duke University School of Nursing welcomes Shein-Chung Chow, PhD, from the Duke Department of Biostatistics who will work closely with our faculty and staff from the Statistics Core in the Center for Nursing Research. As part of his work, Chow will meet with faculty and staff to assess the short and long term needs related to statistics. His input will help determine how to best meet the needs of all faculty to advance the research mission.

Chow is currently a Professor at the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC. In the past couple of years, Chow was on leave of absence for US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an Associate Director at Office of Biostatistics (OB), Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), FDA. He has been re-appointed as a special government employee (SGE) by the FDA as an Advisory Committee voting member and statistical advisor to the FDA after his departure last April. Chow is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Biopharmaceutical Statistics and the Editor-in-Chief of the Biostatistics Book Series at Chapman and Hall/CRC Press of Taylor & Francis Group. He was elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an elected member of the ISI (International Statistical Institute). He has more than 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical/clinical development. He is the author or co-author of over 300 methodology papers and 30 books including Design and Analysis of Bioavailability and Bioequivalence Studies, Sample Size Calculations in Clinical Research, Design and Analysis of Clinical Trials, Adaptive Design Methods in Clinical Trials, Translational Medicine, Design and Analysis of Bridging Studies, Biosimilars: Design and Analysis of Follow-on Biologics., and Quantitative Methods for Traditional Chinese Medicine Development.

Chow received a B.S. in mathematics from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, and a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin.
