Faculty Member Hartman Makes Case for Durham School Board Seat

Ann Michelle Hartman was featured in a recent News & Observer article regarding her application to fill the District 2 seat on the Durham Public Schools Board of Education. If selected, she would hold the position until June 30, 2018. In the article, Hartman states that she will draw on her nursing experience to help "address health disparities," toward meeting social justice goals. She is one of 11 applicants who have applied for the seat and had five minutes to present her case to the School Board.

In her presentation she had to summarize how she would contribute to a number of goals, including academic excellence, teaching the whole child, racial and social injustice, teacher retention, achievement for boys of color, and access to early childhood education. Click here to read the article.
